DeVry University in Chicago seeks to welcome new Part Time Visiting Professors of Computer Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technology to our rapidly expanding degree programs to instruct undergraduate courses. We are interested in developing long-term relationships with superior faculty who have high professional standards, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a commitment to providing the finest practitioner-focused education. 

 

The typical course of instruction may include:

 

Software Engineering (CEIS200)

This course applies tools that are typical of software engineering settings and explores requirements; design; testing; metrics; process improvement; quality assurance; software configuration management, maintenance, and release, as well as ethics

 

Introduction to Cryptographic Methods (CEIS201)

This course illustrates where and how cryptography is used. Also addressed are cryptographic algorithms and protocols, and how they are used to protect information in various states. Topics include number theory; types of attacks; and cryptographic modes, protocols and security functions.

 

Business Application Programming with Lab (CIS355A)

Building on analysis, programming and database skills developed in previous courses, this course introduces fundamental principles and concepts of developing programs that support typical business processing activities and needs such as transaction processing and report generation. Students develop business-oriented programs that deal with error handling, data validation and file handling. Java is the primary programming language used.

 

Ethical Hacking (SEC311)

This course provides knowledge and skills related to activities behind hacking attacks and countermeasures. Coursework helps students build defense mechanisms to protect applications, systems and networks from hackers. Security loopholes, as well as common attack tools used by black hat hackers, are examined.

 

Cisco Networking Academy – Advanced Network Security with Lab (SEC453)

Students in this course develop more advanced skills in identifying network security vulnerabilities, including wireless vulnerabilities; conducting risk assessments; preventing, detecting and responding to intrusions; and providing for business continuity and disaster recovery. Topics include firewall architecture, authentication, intrusion-prevention strategies, web security, cryptography and security gates. This course is based on Cisco Networking Academy content.

 

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Become part of a dynamic team of educational professionals, teaching undergraduate students in a variety of degree programs with a blended-learning format (campus/online)
  • Implement and embrace our philosophy, curriculum and course objectives by engaging students
  • Establish an environment conducive to student engagement by effectively planning and preparing for classes, responding quickly to student requests for assistance and ensuring that students enjoy a powerful learning experience
  • Identify opportunities to enhance student engagement through collaboration with colleagues who provide academic and professional guidance 
  • Promote student success by demonstrating a flexible style and exhibit a passion for teaching by devoting time and energy to develop scholarly excellence
  • Engage with a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and academic preparation using a variety of platforms and technology
  • Foster a positive learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic and attendance policies

Qualifications

You are encouraged to explore this opportunity if you meet the following criteria:

  • A Master's or PhD degree in Computer Information Systems,  Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science or closely related field with 18+ earned graduate credit hours directly in the field of instruction
  • Prior higher education teaching experience is pred
  • Solid subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
  • Excellent motivational and instructional skills to be effective in a non-traditional environment
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups
