Position Summary



Participates in the provision of public services by assisting patrons with the use of library resources and services, circulating books from the collection, maintaining an environment appropriate for study, troubleshooting equipment problems, answering basic requests for information and referring other inquiries as appropriate\. Assists with labeling and shelving of library materials\. Provides clerical support for library projects\. May be responsible for opening and/or closing the Reading Room\.



Job Responsibilities



+ Ensures that a consistent service presence is maintained in the Reading Room\.

+ Acts as a first point of contact for patron inquiries, either face\-to\-face or through a variety of other channels \(telephone, email, web\-based reference\)\.

+ Assists users with basic inquiries and refers others to appropriate staff\.

+ Circulates items from the collection to authorized users\.

+ Maintains the order of the Reading Room collection and facilities\.

+ Maintains security of the reserve collection\.

+ Reports technical problems as they arise\.

+ Maintains a statistical account of service use\.

+ Assists with processing library materials as needed\.

+ Searches for the availability of resources in the Cornell libraries catalogs\.

+ Performs other similar and related duties as required\.



Education



+ Bachelor's Degree



Experience



Some related experience\.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



+ English language fluency\.

+ Strong customer service skills\.

+ Good computer skills\.

+ Ability to organize, prioritize and be attentive to detailed work\.

+ Ability to work as team member\.
