Position Summary

Responsible for defining and enforcing best practices within the Business Objects, HANA and Business Warehouse landscape\. Ensures that development is conducted with strong data modeling and reporting practices\. The architect ensures the integrity of the data, security, and data load performance and report performance\. This role also converts business requirements into professional reporting solutions and manages the timelines of projects to ensure on\-time delivery of project milestones\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Defines & enforces best practices for the Business Objects/Warehouse environments\. Ensures consistency of the data dictionary, usage of terms and nomenclature\.

+ Designs reports with a high attention to quality and details, while following naming and technical standards set by the project\.

+ Manages the rollout of projects and system upgrades\.

+ Creates reports that combine data from multiple sources from low to high levels of complexity\. Creates, maintains and supports complex reports, drill\-through reports, customized layouts, formulas and functions\. Creates backend infrastructure\.

+ Creates a variety of backend Data Warehouse objects from medium to high complexity\. Develops complete full ETL data flow models, from source system extraction to transformations, loading & report creation\. Works with junior developers on complex objects\.

+ Assists in defining the BI Roadmap, taking into consideration projects/initiatives in the portfolio & focusing on improving reporting technologies, building prototypes for all tools available for assessment purpose, with a focus on the customer experience\.

+ Develops extractions, transformation routines, and user exits of high complexity using ABAP development programming language\. Demonstrates strong coding standards to ensure optimal extraction and load performance\.

+ Collaborates and coordinates with other developers and Business Analysts to analyze complex problems\.

+ Identifies areas for improvement or reporting gaps\. Provides technical vision/guidance to the BI team, recommending innovative & forward thinking design solutions\. Troubleshoots/resolves technical issues, debugs, tunes & optimizes report performance\.

+ Engages with users to understand business needs, end\-to\-end relationships & document requirements\. Follows functional specification documents to ensure report work products meet the needs of the requester\. Communicates & delegates requirements as needed\.

+ Creates and executes test scripts to ensure that reports provide accurate results and meet the requirements of the customer\. Ensures team members build accurate scripts by performing timely reviews\.

+ Produces profession technical specifications, status updates and other internal external communications\. Documents innovations and standards in the form of white papers or contributions to internal external newsletters or blogs\.

+ Ensures timely completion of tasks, while managing multiple high priority visibility assignments, project timelines and business user expectations\. Ensures proactive and continuous follow up and detailed status reporting\.

+ Provides guidance, mentoring and constructive feedback to junior members of the development team\. Develops training plans and goals\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


Relevant work exprience can substitute for a degree\.

Minimum of 5 years hands on experience with the development of SAP BI models \(SAP BW and SAP BODS\) and a minimum of 4 full lifecycle projects\.

Experience with HANA Modelling developing reports using BEx Query Designer, Web Intelligence, Analysis for Excel, Dashboard Designer, Design Studio and Crystal Reports Designer, with a minimum of 4 full lifecycle projects\.

Hands on experience with the creation of Universes using the Information Designer\.

Solid understanding of Database Management, Sequences and programming including SQL, SQL Script & stored procedures\.

Experience publishing and distributing Business Objects reports via the BEx Broadcaster, BI Launch Pad, BI Workspaces, folder structures, Life Cycle Manager, and authorizations\.

Experience with SAP Finance \(Grants, Funds, General Ledger\) or Human Capital Management \(HCM Payroll, Benefits, SuccessFactors\) modules highly desired\.

Experience with reporting from Research Administrative Systems like InfoEd, and understanding of research attributes, workflows and processes highly desired\.
