Position Summary

Works with a group of client departments to effectively implement environmental health and safety \(EHS\) services and programs\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Conducts formal safety compliance inspections in accordance with EHS standards and WCM safety committee requirements\.

+ Conducts inspections of safety equipment\.

+ Maintains and completes internal EHS safety advisor training modules; provides constructive feedback on the safety advisor training program and its technical content to promote positive changes within the program\.

+ Assists with the development of customized strategies, educational programs and trainings to advance assigned areas specific safety cultural needs\. Sustains community engagement & timely implementation of safety recommendations & inspection deficiencie

+ Conducts safety outreach for Departments and areas assigned and coordinate with supervisor to affirm effective EHS programs and service implementation in areas conducting high hazard operations\.

+ Implements the occupational hazard assessment and exposure monitoring programs including chemical, biological, and radiological hazard assessments, respiratory protection and fit\-testing, noise and hearing conservation, and ergonomics\.

+ Responds as a part of an emergency team to fires, fire alarm activations, hazardous material spills, gas leaks, indoor air quality issues and other emergencies\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


Must achieve \(within 6 months of hire date\) and maintain certification in WCM EHS safety advisor training program\. All training and certifications are provided internally by WCM EHS\.

Approximately 1\-2 years of work experience in a scientific, technical, or healthcare setting; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience\.

Familiarization or experience working in a science or engineering\-based laboratory with the presence of chemical, biological, or radiological hazards\.

Familiarity and hands\-on experience with industrial hygiene equipment preferred including the ability to read and interpret instrument readings\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Ability to develop and present safety trainings for groups of over 100 faculty, staff, and students\.

+ Must be organized, capable of working independently and as a team member in a service environment and handling multiple assignments\.

+ Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with people in the widest variety of job classifications\.

+ Must be competent in the use of computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and email/internet programs\.

+ Highly service oriented with good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to impart health and safety information to workers of differing backgrounds\.

Licenses and Certifications

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Must be capable of climbing ladders and entering confined spaces\.

Must be capable of demonstrating WCM\-supplied safety equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and moving 55\-gallon drums\.

Must be capable of utilizing respiratory protection equipment, including negative\-pressure respirators and self\-contained breathing apparatus \(SCBA\)\.

Must be reachable and accessible for emergencies during work and off\-hours via phone and email\.
