Position Summary







This position works with PDTX \(Patient Derived Tumor Xenografts\) cancer \(mouse\) models and carries out biological experiments\. This role also performs complex surgical techniques on mice and works in a highly sterile environment extremely sensitive to external conditions\.







Job Responsibilities







+ Plays a key role in the development and implementation of the newly established Patient Derived Tumor Xenograft \(PDTX\) Institutional initiative\.



+ Develops standard operating procedures and quality control policies and procedures to ensure precise environmental and quality controls are met under the supervision of the Director and PDTX committee\.



+ Works with in vivo models, examines the effect of chemical agents on human xenograft tumors and murine tumor growth, conducts study\-related rodent surgeries and other procedures; records the results and prepares data summaries\.



+ Takes care of the breeding colonies and mouse genotypes\.



+ Carries out and tracks PDTX biobanking procedures\. Interacts closely with peers and Pis: informs them the status of the colony and best practices for in vivo experiments\.



+ Operates various preparative and analytical, highly complex instrumentations\. Maintains computer and paper records\.



+ Maintains the PDTX unit under strict sterile conditions and performs regular tests in accordance with the veterinarian staff\.



+ Operates and maintains the MRI unit to assess the presence of tumor lesions and their natural evolution and/or changes under therapies\.



+ Initiates purchase of consumables and monitors inventory\.



+ Responsible for preparing chemical material for analysis in various experiments\.



+ Performs other related duties as assigned\.







Education







+ Bachelors of Science Degree







Experience







Master's Degree in the Sciences preferred\.







Approximately 5 years of related work experience in a research laboratory setting\.







Previous experience working with mouse models highly desired\.







Knowledge, Skills and Abilities







+ Ability to multi\-task while maintaining rigorous attention to detail\.



+ Ability to work independently as well as part of a team\.



+ Excellent communication skills \(both verbal and written\)\.

Highly sterile core facility with very specific controls as they pertain to external factors \(i\.e\. temperature, air pressure, attire\)\.







Radiological and biological hazards common to research laboratories\.
