Position Summary



Designs, organizes and conducts highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures, and in some cases designs new protocols\. Responsibilities include summarizing findings and publishing results in research journals\. This role assumes general responsibility for scientific operations in assigned area\(s\) and provides guidance to junior technicians, students and researchers\.



Job Responsibilities



+ Designs and implements ISH\-based research protocols and functional validation assays; adapts new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures\.

+ Assists principal investigators to interpret ISH assays using high\-powered fluorescence microscope and automated image analysis\.

+ Oversees media preparation, equipment maintenance and quality control analysis of reagents\.

+ Collects, prepares and analyzes research data; maintains detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data; maintains computer database of research data\.

+ Tabulates and displays data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; uses graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data\.

+ Works closely with other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participates in training of technicians, fellows and volunteer workers as needed\.

+ Searches pertinent scientific literature as needed\.

+ Assists with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory\.



Education



+ Bachelor's Degree



Experience



Masters in basic or health science is preferred\.



Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a research environment\.



Expertise in chromogenic and fluorescence in situ hybridization \(FISH\) and functional validation assays desired\.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



+ Able to work in a team environment, be self\-motivated, possess strong organizational skills, and work on multiple tasks concurrently\.
