Job Details

Position Summary

Under guidance from the investigators, supervises and coordinates clinical research trials\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Performs medical histories/physical examinations, documents diagnosis/treatment plans/orders in clinical patient charts; evaluates new patients and follows existing patients\. Performs other diagnostic, therapeutic & interventional procedures as necessary\.

+ Screens and responds to clinical patient/research subject telephone calls, screens incoming laboratory data, discusses data with patients/subjects and takes appropriate action when results require prompt attention\.

+ Assists with clinical patient scheduling, including, lab/radiology orders, insurance pre\-certification \(as necessary\), filing of medical release forms, setting\-up procedure/examination rooms related to visit procedures and completing clinical notes\.

+ Assists with preparation of regulatory documentation including adverse event reports, exception requests, memos etc\. for clinical studies to the IRB, CTSC, DSMB, etc\.

+ Assists with recruitment for assigned research trials\.

+ Reviews subject eligibility for clinical trials; performs medical histories, physical examinations, study questionnaires; ensures completion of screening paperwork and maintains accurate medical records\.

+ Ensures proper data collection and procedures; collects pre\-treatment and on\-study data as required; assists in interpretation of clinical data; presents data in conferences and service meetings\.

+ Administers drugs as necessary by the clinical protocols\. Works with NYH Pharmacy to ensure proper handling and protocol rules are met\. Responsible for various aspects of research subject treatments on protocols\. Evaluates subjects as deemed necessary\.

+ Assists MD in performing bronchoscopy procedures, nasal brushings/washings, biopsies and other granted privileges per certification\.

+ Reviews and completes protocol history sheets, flow sheets, study follow\-up reports, patient evaluation forms, and other relevant forms and surveys\. Enters all data into the practice management system and other databases as needed\.


+ Bachelor's Degree


Approximately 2 years of work experience in clinical setting highly desired\.

Prior experience with coordinating clinical protocols desired\.

Master's degree preferred\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Excellent communication skills \(both verbal and written\)\.

+ Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail\.

+ Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituencies and exercise "people skills"\.

+ Patience and a high capacity for empathy and perseverance\.

Licenses and Certifications

+ Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration

+ Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc

+ BLS Certification \(issued by the American Heart Association\)

+ Current ACLS or PALS \(if applicable\)
