Position Summary

Under guidance, is responsible for the overall coordination, production, and management of information on donors and prospects for Weill Cornell Medicine\. In addition, he/she supports research requests as assigned\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Provides strategic direction for overall WCM prospect research program\. Develops annual goals and objectives for the program\.

+ Develops and manages a system of continued prospect identification and pipeline development\.

+ Identifies prospects via data mining, predictive modeling and wealth screening and other resources\.

+ Undertakes special projects as assigned\. Works with the department's IT staff in developing canned or customized reports\.

+ Manages subscriptions, access privileges and user accounts\.

+ Works closely with the Director to develop and enforce policies and procedures related to prospect research, including information release policies, donor confidentiality, ethics, electronic information management, etc\.

+ Provides senior staff with reports that include capacity ratings, assets and wealth information, philanthropic history, biographical background, etc\.

+ Maintains overall knowledge of WCM's top prospects to assist fundraisers in developing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies\.

+ Identifies and assesses new techniques, tools, emerging technologies, and other developments in the field\. Develops and maintains working knowledge of/proficiency with donor database\.

+ Fields and triages information requests on a daily basis from senior staff and gift officers\.

+ Provides information in preparation for meetings with Board Chairman, campaign committee leadership, and other groups\. Provides all research on Board candidates, with special attention to wealth and reputation information\.

+ Performs complex analyses to provide strategic guidance and to promote increased effectiveness of fundraisers\.

+ Recruits, trains, manages, and appraises direct reports\. Reviews work, provides guidance and direction, offers opportunities for professional development\.

+ Prioritizes workload, determines research strategies and formats, assigns and reviews work for direct reports\.

+ Serves as primary liaison between the Research program and other Development divisions\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


Advanced degree preferred\.

Approximately 5 years of direct prospect research experience in a fundraising department\.

Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Knowledge of standard industry resources that include Lexis Nexus, Research Point, IWave, DonorSearch, RelSci, Wealth\-X, etc\.

+ Advanced analytical skills to synthesize a high volume of information from a variety of sources and perform complex analysis to interpret financial data\.

+ Strong strategic abilities, highly organized and detail\-oriented\.

+ Demonstrated ability to multi\-task and prioritize in a fast\-paced environment\.

+ Excellent communication skills \(both verbal and written\)\.

+ A team oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals\.

+ Skilled in determining strengths and weaknesses in subordinate staff, and able to identify areas for growth\. Demonstrated ability to coach, train and provide staff development\.

+ Knowledge of, and experience with, fundraising database programs such as BBEC, Raisers Edge, EPIC, Advance, etc\.

+ Ability to remain focused in the face of pressure, deliver against timelines and not be intimidated by tasks/time limitations

+ Ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor\.

+ Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications\.
