Description Position Summary
The SPORE Program Specialist provides administrative support for the WCM SPORE in Prostate Cancer. The SPORE .Specialized Programs of Research Excellence. is a grant mechanism that is unique to the National Cancer Institute, and is a multi.project, multi.department and multi.institution award that is focused on collaborative, interdisciplinary translational cancer research. SPORE grants include projects and investigators across the spectrum of basic to clinical research with the ultimate goal of developing new and diverse approaches to the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of human cancers. As this grant mechanism is the “cornerstone of NCI’s efforts to promote collaborative interdisciplinary translational cancer research” .http://trp.cancer.gov., it is one that requires frequent and substantive two.way communication with the NCI.
Job Responsibilities
+ Assist in the oversight and management of financial and administrative functions for program investigators. Responsible for all post award administration of grant awards, including creating fiscal forecasts and monthly monitoring/understanding of expenses.

+ Assist in the program's administrative operations, including grant administration, monitoring of all compliance requirements and research progress, both internally and across institutions .

+ Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for communication, quality control and required reporting activities. Guides directors on requirements and works closely with members of advisory boards to assure reports address required elements.

+ Develop and enhance database and reporting systems for searching, organizing, and maintain NCI required information and developing targeted reports to meet NCI requests as well as collaborators’ institutional and research needs.

+ Develop and implement appropriate assessment measures and systems to monitor progress and evaluate projects and cores. Works with the program directors and advisory committees to plan and implement changes in program projects and activities.

+ Attend national conferences of program administrators, serves on committees for national program planning and mentors other program administrators. Develops specific expertise and participates in conference calls and meetings with NCI representatives.

+ As required by NCI program staff, direct the creation of a website and other electronic mechanisms to publicize program achievements and to advertise the program widely.

+ Develop and implement mechanisms to identify investigators to participate in program related research and develops and manages pilot project and career enhancement award solicitations, reviews, and awards for leadership and advisory boards.
Education
+ High School Diploma
Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Approximately 3 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor.

+ Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.

+ Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.

+ Ability to multi.task and self.prioritize work.
