Professional Assistant I (PAI) – Special Programs

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (12-month), tenure-track position as a Professional Assistant I (PAI) in the College’s  Office of Special Programs, beginning  as soon as possible and located on the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.

 

Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description:

This position provides organizational support, program development, coordination of activities and services, and monitors progress of “Stay on Long Island”, “New York State Presidential Transfer” and “Get There From Here” scholarship applicants/recipients. Stay on Long Island (SoLII) and the New York State Presidential Transfer scholarships are college-wide transfer scholarships that seek to ensure Suffolk's brightest and most talented graduates consider the merits of continuing their education by transferring to a Long Island- or New York State-based college or university. The “Get There From Here” (GTFH) scholarship promotes academic excellence and provides an opportunity for members of Suffolk County’s diverse student population to reach their highest academic potential.

 

This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Assistant Director of the Michael J. Grant Campus Career and Transfer Center for day-to-day supervision.  This individual will also work collaboratively with the Counselor for Special Programs. The PA1 is responsible for the following:

 

  • Provides support for the coordination and delivery of program activities, workshops and support services for the “Stay on Long Island”, “New York State Presidential Transfer” and “Get There from Here” scholarships and “Position Your Transition” programs.

  • Maintains frequent contact with all scholarship applicants/recipients within these programs.  This includes email, U.S. mail, telephone communication and campus visits 

  • Provides assistance for internal and external College outreach and for the recruitment of potential scholarship applicants. 

  • Assists with the coordination of the scholarship selection and evaluation process, as well as the GTFH new scholar orientation program, in consultation with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the Vice President for Student Affairs. 

  • Develops and delivers scholarship informational workshops for eligible prospective scholarship applicants.

  •  
  • Prior to graduation, assists with the planning and coordination necessary to schedule a variety of campus tours that enable Suffolk students to visit prospective local four-year colleges and universities under the “Position Your Transition” Program.    

  • Maintains the “Stay on Long Island,” “New York State Presidential Transfer,” “Get There from Here,” and “Position Your Transition” web sites. 

  • Designs and implements databases, electronic records, and survey research.

  • In coordination with the Office of Institutional Advancement, develops printed materials to support promotion of these special programs

  • In coordination with the IT/web services team, creates and designs ADA-compliant forms and on-line applications.  

  •  Develops and delivers career development, transfer and internship information workshops. 

  • Assists with the planning and coordination of campus-wide events (e.g., Career and Transfer Fair, Employment Day)

  • Dispenses information to students regarding internship opportunities.

  • Compiles data in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and assists with the reporting on program accomplishments and activities.

  • Participates on campus and college-wide committees.

  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs/Assistant Director of the Career and Transfer Center.

  • Minimum Qualifications - A Bachelor's Degree and effective verbal, written, communication skills and strong computer literacy are required. At least two years of experience working with college students is also required. Must have experience working with student scholarship programs. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access database, Argos, Banner and Survey Monkey. Must have knowledge of website ADA compliance.

 

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in graphic arts and website design is preferred.
