Position Summary







Responsible for coordination and direct patient care of patients in an outpatient setting, with some inpatient coordination, in support of the Weill Cornell Medicine Headache Program\. The WCM Headache Program is a leading center for the treatment of those suffering from headache pain and is dedicated to providing the highest level of best\-practice care in an environment that is caring, nurturing and supportive\.







This position performs medical histories, physical exams, and other clinical care and documents all findings appropriately\. This role will also prepare for and initiate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, administer IV medications, prescribe and revise medication regimes, as well as order and interpret neurological and laboratory studies\.







The ideal candidate should have experience in neurology or pain management, be trained in the treatment of headache pain and related neurological conditions and have skills relevant to nerve blocks, trigger point injections and Botox administration\.







Job Responsibilities







+ Obtains initial histories and performs physical examinations\. Documents clinical findings in patient medical record\. Develops and implements plan of care in conjunction with supervising physician\.



+ Issues prescriptions for drugs, devices and immunizations as indicated\.



+ Provides health education counseling to patients and families\. Answers questions about disease and treatment plan\.



+ Coordinates care of established patients: coordinates the ongoing care of established patients ensuring that diagnostic testing and sub specialty consultations and all follow up appointments are completed on a timely basis\.



+ Responds to patient phone calls, answers questions and refers questions to physician as appropriate\.



+ Acts as a "physician extender" during clinical encounters in both an outpatient and inpatient setting\. Provides clinical services and care in conjunction with collaborating physician\.



+ Establishes and maintains a clinical and research database\. Assists physician with the coordination of clinical trials\.



+ Prescreens and triages all new patients prior to scheduling of appointments: collects relevant medical materials including scans and records from outside hospitals and physicians\.



+ Coordinates the scheduling of appointments for new patients with multiple medical subspecialties; reviews and summarizes clinical information of the obtained history materials prior to the appointment; shares same with multi\-specialty care team\.



+ Establishes and maintains educational materials; and supports programs for patients and their families\.







Education







+ Bachelor's Degree in related field







Experience







Minimum two years of experience as Physicians Assistant or Physician Assistant\. Experience in neurological evaluation and treatment preferred\.







Experience in coordinating with specialists in complementary specialties such as acupuncture or biofeedback is a plus\.







Effective computer skills, especially use of EMR\.







Record of providing outstanding and compassionate medical care\.







Strong Communication skills

+ Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills\.







Licenses and Certifications







+ Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration



+ Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc



+ BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association\.



+ Current ACLS or PALS \(if applicable\)
