    The Payroll and HRIS Manager will oversee the processing of accurate and timely payments of wages to employees. The Manager will be a subject matter expert in the area of payroll taxes.  This position will set goals and responsibilities of the payroll team to provide excellent customer service throughout the organization and will liaise with Human Resources to ensure benefits and compensation initiatives and processes are aligned with the payroll function.



    - Manages and oversees the accurate and timely payment of wages to all employees and independent contractors (adjunct faculty) including developing and maintaining documentation and controls for payroll related activities.

    - Manage the day to day operations of the HRIS team, partnering with the Centers of Excellence (COEs) and other internal customers to identify needs and potential efficiencies. Solutions will include Benefits, Recruitment, Payroll, Performance Management, Talent Management, and Learning Management.
    - Lead HRIS initiatives including system upgrades, process enhancements, reporting and data analysis to meet ongoing business needs. Regularly evaluates all HR systems to optimize integration, automation, efficiency, and user experience.

    - Provides subject matter expertise in the area of payroll taxes, including the proper withholding and remittance of federal, state and local taxes and the timely production and distribution of W-2s and 1099s.

    - Establishes and evaluates performance metrics and SLAs to drive a customer service focused culture.
    - Overall accountability for data integrity to include quality, accuracy, security, and usability of colleague data and related interfaces by implementing adequate processes, audits and backup systems.
    - Develops and maintains a relationship with service providers to resolve issues and create system enhancements to produce accurate payrolls and reports, as well as functional integrations between systems, where appropriate.

    - Responsible for planning, budgeting and forecasting of current and future Payroll and HRIS needs. Maintain awareness of HR vendor plans and their potential impact on system functionality.
    - Ensures the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions and
    terminations is accurate and timely.
    - Reviews and analyzes current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations.
    - Manages regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.  Manages preparation of ad-hoc reports (special projects, data requests, etc.).
    - Develops and communicates organization-wide Payroll and HRIS policies and procedures. Partners with Human Resources in developing and communicating policies and procedures.

    - Reduce customization through consultative approach with business partners and end users.


    Completes other duties as assigned. 


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    - Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or other related discipline required; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) desirable.
    -  At least 5-7 years of progressive payroll/HRIS experience within a corporate department with at least 4 years in a supervisory position.
    - At least 5 years of experience using an outside payroll and HRIS service provider; Ultipro experience pred.

    - Strong project management experience is required; PMP Certification or Masters in Project Management is a definite plus.

    - Track record of collaboration and building cross functional partnerships; strong verbal and written communications skills are required.

    - Expertise in federal, state and local taxation to include multi-state tax experience, pably with a large volume of states.
    - Has in depth knowledge of wage and hour regulations. Understands intricate processing of garnishments and other involuntary deductions.
    - Interacts professionally with all levels of employees.
    - Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Internet applications.
    - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
