Position Summary

Under general direction, performs Ophthalmic Technician services as well as serve as an ophthalmic scribe for a high volume and multi\-subspecialty ophthalmic practice\. Provide vital support and boost productivity to physician practices as well as maximize physician efficiency\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Assists with minor surgery procedures, injections, or laser treatments in the office\. Responsible for obtaining pre\-procedural consent forms and other related documentation; ensures maintenance of records in patient files\.

+ Performs initial patient exams including lensometry, vision assessment, patient history, refractometry, and intraocular pressure measurement\.

+ Summarizes & documents within the practice management system what physician says during an exam, including but not limited to, proper charting of the examination: documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment\.

+ When appropriate, completes check\-out note, providing direction to the patient prior to following the physician\. Guides patient to check out desk after completion of exam and ensures proper follow\-up appointments are made\.

+ Educates patient regarding administration of medications, and pre or post\-operative instructions as directed by physicians\.

+ When applicable, provides accurate spectacle or contact lens prescriptions and/or medication prescriptions for the ophthalmologists signature prior to the completion of the examination\.

+ Maintains and contributes to efficient patient flow in the practice\.

+ Attends conferences, workshops and lectures\. Reviews current literature and updates on the latest developments/techniques for testing\.

+ Assists physicians as directed\.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned\.


+ High School Diploma


Approximately 2 plus years of related ophthalmic experience\.

Certified Ophthalmic Medical Assistant \(COA\), or equivalent higher training highly desired\.

Knowledgeable and proficient in automated and manual testing, including but not limited to: Ultrasound, OCT, Auto & Manifest refraction, Keratometry, Goldmann and Humphrey visual fields, A and B\-scan, Ishihara and Schirmir testing, Flourescein Angiography, Corneal Topography, Corneal Pachymetry, Anterior Segment Slit Lamp Examination, Heidelberg Retinal Tomography and Applanation tonometry\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Knowledgeable and proficient in automated and manual ophthalmic testing\.
