The typical course of instruction may include:

  • International Classification of Diseases Coding (CCS or CIC required)
  • Current Procedural Terminology Coding (CCS-P or CPC required)
  • Coding Practicum (CCS or CIC required)
  • Health Information Processes
  • Health Information Fundamentals
  • Basic Medical Terminology
  • Introduction to Health Services and Information Systems
  • Legal and Regulatory Issues in Health Information
  • Data Applications and Healthcare Quality with Lab
  • Health Insurance and Reimbursement

This is 100% ONLINE teaching, an incredibly flexible and convenient way to share your experience and knowledge with those who aspire to enjoy the career success you already have.


In this role, you will:

  • Become part of a dynamic team of educational professionals, teaching HIT students in an online setting using the Canvas learning management system
  • Implement and embrace our philosophy, curriculum and course objectives by engaging students
  • Establish an environment conducive to student engagement by effectively planning and preparing for classes, responding quickly to student requests for assistance and ensuring that students enjoy a powerful learning experience
  • Identify opportunities to enhance student engagement through collaboration with colleagues who provide academic and professional guidance 
  • Promote student success by demonstrating a flexible style and exhibit a passion for teaching by devoting time and energy to develop scholarly excellence
  • Engage with a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and academic preparation using a variety of platforms and technology
  • Foster a positive learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades on time, and enforcing academic and attendance policies




You are encouraged to explore this opportunity if you meet the following:

  • A Master's Degree in Health Information Technology, Health Science or closely related field is required
  • RHIT Certification (current/active) is required; RHIA pred
  • CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CIC Certification and ICD-10 proficiency is required to teach coding courses
  • A minimum of 3 years directly relevant professional experience required
  • Prior higher education teaching experience is pred
  • Faculty must have requisite subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
  • Faculty must also have excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups
