Description Position Summary
Develop and maintain the Weill Cornell Medicine.WCM. occupational health and safety programs. Serves as the lead for occupational health and safety related programs, conducts compliance and risk assessments, and develops and implements policies and procedures. Assess current programs to identify new performance goals, strategies, and metrics. Works closely with other EHS staff, service departments, and building occupants related to the implementation of EHS programs and services.
Job Responsibilities
+ Conduct accident investigations relating to occupational safety. Recommend follow.up and work.practice changes as necessary. Investigate reports of safety hazards,code violations and resolve issues identified.

+ Develop the occupational safety programs, including but not limited to hazardous energy control, electrical safety, fall protection, equipment physical hazards, machine guarding, power tools, respiratory protection and fit.testing & hearing conservation.

+ Assess for development of occupational safety programs; develop and maintain documents; communicate programs to community; develop and provide trainings and ensure institutional standards are properly maintained.

+ Provide safety outreach and training. Routinely conduct field assessments to assess risks, identify safety hazards and correct non.compliance issues. Maintain required safety trainings based on current operations.

+ Develop and maintain internal EHS safety advisor training programs, provide constructive feedback, establish performance metrics on program performance and identify safety issues affecting the WCM community for inclusion in the safety advisor program.

+ Respond to hazardous material spills, gas leaks and other indoor air quality issues including the implementation of the College’s Hazardous Waste Central Accumulation Facility Emergency Contingency Plan.
Education
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field
Experience
Approximately three years of experience with increasing responsibilities in industrial hygiene and occupational safety fields. Advanced degree may substitute for years of experience or subject matter expertise in at least two of the program areas listed above and the ability to become quickly proficient in all other programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Organizational skills and ability to multi.task.

+ Certified Industrial Hygienist .CIH. or Certified Safety Professional .CSP. certification preferred.

+ Ability to develop and present safety trainings for groups of over 100 faculty, staff, and students.

+ Ability to act decisively when responding to emergency situations.

+ Ability to solve problems using analytical and systematic methodologies.

+ Must be competent in the use of computers including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and email/internet programs.

+ Highly service oriented with good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to impart health and safety information to workers of differing backgrounds.

+ Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with people in the widest variety of job classifications.
Licenses and Certifications
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must be capable of demonstrating WCMC.supplied safety equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and moving 55.gallon drums.
Must be capable of climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
Must be capable of utilizing respiratory protection equipment, including negative.pressure respirators and self.contained breathing apparatus .SCBA..
Must be reachable and accessible for emergencies during work and off.hours via phone and email.
