Position Summary

A trained molecular technologist with clinical diagnostics experience and/or non\-technologists with significant molecular experience\. Develops and validates genomic testing using PCR and next generation sequencing technologies\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Participate in assay development and validation, generation of standard operation protocols, instruments maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting\.

+ Perform clinical diagnostic tests using NGS and other molecular biology techniques\. These tests impact on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and management of patients with myeloid and lymphoid malignancies\.

+ Assists in NGS/genomics\-based translational research as necessary\.

+ Insures proper use of all protocols of specimen handling including accessioning, blood processing, DNA/RNA extractions, Sanger sequencing and Next\-Generation Sequencing\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


M\.Sc\. in Molecular Biology, Medical technology, Biology, or related degree with four years experience processing clinical samples for molecular diagnostic assays

Or a B\.S\. in Molecular Biology, Medical technology, Biology, or related degree with seven years of experience processing clinical samples for molecular diagnostic assays

Familiarity with high through\-put platforms, thermal cyclers and real time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, and other common laboratory methodologies and equipment\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Prior experience with next generation sequencing \(NGS\) is preferred but not required\.

+ New York State, and preferably, ASCP certification will be required within 18 months of hiring\.

+ Excellent multi\-tasking and organizational skills, be able to work independently in a busy clinical laboratory, highly motivated to provide high quality patient care in a team\-oriented setting, and be very attentive to details\.
