Position Summary

The Laboratory Technologist is a licensed position that is responsible for pre\-analytical, analytical and post\-analytical processes associated with specimen processing and test performance in the Institute for Precision Medicines NYS/CLIA/CAP Molecular Genomics Laboratory\. The incumbent will be responsible for performing selected procedures in the wet lab associated with Next Generation Sequencing\. This person is responsible for executing clinical laboratory protocols, including but not limited to nucleotide extraction, library preparation, sanger sequencing, PCR, gel and capillary electrophoresis and Next Generation Sequencing platforms\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Performs technical assignments according to laboratory guidelines thoroughly and accurately\.

+ Follows the entire laboratory procedures documented in the Standard Operating Procedures Manual for the assigned laboratory section\.

+ Assists with QC and Preventative Maintenance documentation

+ Performs molecular analysis of Blood, Bone Marrow, and Solid Tissue specimens\.

+ Insures proper use of all protocols of specimen handling including accessioning, blood processing, DNA/RNA extractions, Sanger sequencing and Next\-Generation Sequencing\.

+ Assures the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratorys Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures\.

+ Performs routine equipment maintenance and function checks\.

+ Enters procedural and QC data into laboratory information system

+ Stocks supplies and cleans laboratory and prepares laboratory for next days processing requirements\.

+ Assist in developing new protocols for new clinical NGS test assays and create training material for new employees


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


At least 2 years of related work experience\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Experience in Molecular Genomics\.

+ Familiarity with high throughput platforms, thermal cyclers, capillary electrophoresis, Next\-Gen Sequencers and other common laboratory equipment\.

Licenses and Certifications

+ NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist
