Description Position Summary
Provides Chemistry laboratory coordination and support for the Foundation and General Chemistry courses and the "Proteins" module of the Advanced Laboratory course within the Pre.Medical Division, to ensure safe laboratory function, as per WCM.Q safety policies.
Job Responsibilities
+ Prepare reagents and solutions, fabricate apparatus components, set up equipment, and clean.up for the Foundation and General Chemistry.

+ Responsible for the “Proteins” module of the CAPSTONE: Advanced Laboratory course. Support the instructor to order materials, prepare reagents and setup the lab for students’ arrival.

+ Attend laboratory sessions to provide one.on.one instruction concerning proper laboratory technique, assisting with in.lab teaching sessions where necessary.

+ Conducts regular briefings for General Chemistry and Foundation Chemistry Teaching Specialists regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials .including appropriate disposal of waste material and clean up., and the operation of equipment.

+ Performs cleaning, checking and organizing of the teaching laboratory and equipment, including conducting inventory counts of chemicals, supplies, and equipment as required. Performs the end.of.semester organization of teaching laboratories and stockrooms.

+ Coordinates ordering/receiving of laboratory coats for teaching labs, including arranging embroidering. Sending dirty coats to dry cleaners at the end of year

+ Assists with creating orders for supplies and equipment, including leasing with procurement, Faculty and follow up on order processing. Receives, cross.checks orders and completes necessary documentation for the EHSS division, customs, etc.

+ Orders cryogens and performs weekly refills for the NMR spectrometer.

+ Safely maintains and catalogues the chemistry collection of hazardous wastes .e.g. used heavy metals, waste solvents, etc.. according to WCM.Q and government policies, and regularly arranges coordination with EHSS division for proper disposal

+ Assists with chemistry.related aspects of student recruitment and community outreach events.
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field
Minimum 2 years previous experience working in an industrial, research or teaching laboratory environment with a working knowledge and record of preparing chemical reagents and maintaining equipment.
Previous training in laboratory safety.
Experience with Microsoft office products; including word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Attention to detail and multitasking abilities, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

+ Strong verbal, written communications, and interpersonal skills.

+ Previously demonstrated basic proficiency in written and spoken English.

+ Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and data

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
. Work is completed in a lab.type environment.
. Approximately 20% is computer based, 80% is lab.based.
. The job requires extended and varying work hours to meet demands.
. Must be able to move and lift cartoons weighing 20 kgs.
