Job Description:

The Engineering Science & Industrial Technology Department seeks a full-time faculty member to teach a wide variety of engineering and technology-related courses, including engineering statics & dynamics, introduction to engineering, problem solving, engineering graphics, and 3D modeling. The candidate must be willing to teach day and evening classes.  In addition to teaching, development and implementation of new courses such as engineering mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and material science will be required.

 

Job Duties: 

  • Teach structural courses related to Mechanical Engineering with additional teaching responsibilities in the construction/electrical technology area.

  • Engage and implement assessment of college-wide student learning outcomes for courses and programs in the department.

  • Active in developing and expanding industry partnerships and community outreach.

  • Contributor to grant efforts in the development, submission and delivery of technical grants.

  • Active in advisement, mentoring, and student engineering/technology clubs.

  • Participate in attending local and national conferences/meetings in an effort to implement new teaching methodologies and technology.

  • Collaborate in the development and revision of curriculum, as well as in program review and program improvement initiatives.

  • Ability to lead and willingness to support program improvement through collaborative assessment of student learning, staff development, and curriculum development.

  • Ability and willingness to integrate new technology into the curriculum whenever and however it is advantageous.

  • Ability to work with high school students/teachers and coordinate high school outreach efforts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Candidate must have a firm commitment to student mentoring, and to teaching a diverse population.

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline.

  • Engages in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in courses.

  • Active participation in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.

  • Academic advisement and curriculum development.

  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

A Master’s Degree in Engineering Science related to mechanical/civil engineering or closely related discipline with some background in electrical and/or computer engineering is required. Teaching experience is preferred, with the successful candidate possessing evidence of professional experience, continued professional development, and development of creating partnerships and mentoring. Individual must be willing to be part of a team to help develop and expand the Engineering Science department. Substantial experience in using engineering software; demonstrate a strong background in curricular planning and assessment, as well as the use of innovative educational technologies to enhance student learning, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
