Description Position Summary
Oversees the Weill Cornell Medicine .WCM. hazardous materials and waste programs. Serves as the technical expert and program leader, conducts compliance and risk assessments, independently develops and implements campus.wide programs to comply with the hazardous material and waste regulatory requirements. Responsible for the day.to.day management of the hazardous chemical, biological, and radioactive waste disposal; and hazardous materials programs including the ability to assess current program metrics to identify new performance goals.
Job Responsibilities
+ Participates on EHS team and provides support to further departmental mission; assists EHS staff as needed; provides service to other EHS programs; and works with other EHS staff to develop other programs, as required.

+ Manages hazardous materials and waste programs, including development of EHS Program Manuals and guidance documentation and routinely assess program metrics to identify new performance goals and training opportunities.

+ Serves as the lead in hazardous material spill response and coordinates with EHS staff, campus units, police, fire and contractors. Supports emergency team preparedness and reviews response. Acts decisively when responding to emergency situations.

+ Supervises safety technician and develops EHS safety advisor programs for hazardous material and waste programs to facilitate implementation of program requirements.

+ Oversees waste vendor services, negotiates waste disposal contracts and maintains budgets; and prepares hazardous waste emergency contingency plan and regulatory reports.

+ Works closely with Facilities department to implement environmental protection programs .air, water, petroleum bulk storage., conducts routine audits of program and provides training.
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field
At least five years of related experience in environmental protection, hazardous waste management, and emergency response.
An advanced degree may be substituted for experience.
Resource Conservation Recovery Act .RCRA. training in compliance with 40 CFR 265.16.
United States Department of Transportation .DOT. training in compliance with 49 CFR 172 Subpart H, 172.702 and 172.704.
International Air Transport Association .IATA. training for shipping Dangerous Goods.
OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response .HAZWOPER. training in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.120.e..

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must be capable of utilizing respiratory protection equipment, including negative.pressure respirators and self.contained breathing apparatus .SCBA..
Must be capable of demonstrating WCMC.supplied safety equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and moving 55.gallon drums.
Must be reachable and accessible for emergencies during work and off.hours via phone and email.
No relocation assistance is provided for this position.
