Position Summary



Responsible for providing high\-level guidance and grant writing support to investigators overseeing and managing a large grants portfolio and interacting with multiple collaborators and institutions with the primary goal of acquiring funding for the labs and consortium research efforts\.



This role is responsible for developing high\-quality proposals, collaborating with all levels of faculty, researchers, and administrators to develop, edit, and complete scientific communications \(grants, manuscripts, protocols, reports, regulatory applications, abstracts, poster presentations, and other presentations\)\. The emphasis of the position is primarily in writing/editing of grant proposals at advanced levels for submission to a variety of funding institutions that would include the National Institutes of Health, and other federal and private sources\.



Will assist with searching for, preparation, and submission of grant applications and progress reports, ensuring that deadlines are met and that required information is provided in the appropriate format\. This role is also responsible for preparing moderately complex documents and sections of regulatory submissions and contributes scientific knowledge and analytical skills to the preparation of grant proposals, manuscripts, presentations, protocols, and clinical regulatory documentation\.



This role works collaboratively with the Office of Sponsored Research Administration to ensure timely turnaround and proposal submissions\.



Job Responsibilities



+ Working with principal investigator, takes lead role in project management and preparation of grant proposals\. Provides advice on grantsmanship, editorial support and standardized language for administrative sections; manages scientific writing process\.

+ Discusses new grant ideas/specific aims with Principal Investigator\(s\) and writes drafts of specific aims page, research plan, response to reviewer critiques, reference section, and other sections as needed for grant applications or proposals\.

+ Facilitates writing, editing, and preparation of high quality written scientific documents for grant applications, publications, scientific manuscripts for peer review, white papers, protocols, and other scientific or administrative reports\.

+ Provides grant/proposal editing and writing services to support PI\(s\) in developing high quality and highly competitive grant proposals for submission to federal, state, non\-profit, internal, and/or private funding agencies and organizations\.

+ Provides full life cycle editing/writing support for grant submissions, including managing timelines/project milestones, collecting figures, illustrations, and information from various sources, editing documents and coordinating with multiple stakeholders\.

+ Works closely with the department research administration office, clinical research office, OSRA, IRB and other Weill Cornell compliance offices to compile and submit grant applications in a timely manner\.

+ Works with Principal Investigator\(s\) to develop, present, and bring to final submission high quality, large, multi\-disciplinary, and multi\-collaborative grant proposals\.

+ Maintains up\-to\-date grants calendar and tracks deadlines for reports, letters of intent, and grant submissions\.

+ Prepares progress reports and updates for federal, state, non\-profit, and/or private funding agencies and organizations\.

+ Prepares protocols \(including amendments and informed consents\), reports, and manuscripts for publication\.

+ Edits and proofreads abstracts, posters, and presentations for style and content\.

+ Searches the internet and other sources to match federal and non\-federal funding opportunities to the Principal Investigator\(s\)s research and interprets the funding opportunities for the Principal Investigator\(s\)\.

+ Follows established Weill Cornell Medicine and department policies, rules and regulations and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local agencies\.



Education



+ Master's Degree in related field



Experience



Master's in Biomedical Sciences \(PhD preferred\) , Life Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering or related field is required\. PhD in listed fields is preferred\.



Certificate or Substantial Coursework in English or Writing is preferred\.



Seven to ten \(7\-10\) years minimum experience in extensive scientific/medical writing experience, including research proposal development and scientific manuscript is required\.



Seven \(7\) years of experience in solid scientific/research background is required\.



Five \(5\) years of experience working in an academic medical center is required\.



Five \(5\) years of experience working on biomedical science grant applications and formats is required\.



Experience in research and an academic environment necessary\.



Extensive knowledge in the scientific granting process and successful writing on grant proposals for scientific research, including submissions for federal \(e\.g\. NIH\) organizations, private foundations, and donors required\.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications\.

+ Strong writing skills\.
