Description Position Summary
Manages the institution’s fire safey and emergency management programs.
Job Responsibilities
+ Manages and promotes the WCM fire safety and prevention program. Develops programs and educational materials related to fire safety and prevention.

+ Manages and promotes the WCM emergency management program. Develops programs and educational materials on institutional emergency planning, response and communications.

+ Manages the institution’s fire and emergency action preparedness and response programs. Trains security personnel on NYC FLSD requirements.

+ Develops and maintains Fire Safety/Emergency Action Plans .FS/EAP. as required by the FDNY.

+ Liaises with the local Fire Departments and other emergency response agencies for the purpose of inspection, emergency planning, response and post.incident follow.up.

+ Coordinates FDNY building fire and life safety and public assembly inspections. Coordinates and oversees resolution of violations as approriate.

+ As a part of an emergency team, responds to fires, fire alarm activations, hazardous material spills, gas leaks, indoor air quality issues, and other emergencies.

+ Serves as an emergency team leader and back.up incident commander.

+ Serves as member of hazardous material spill response team including the implementation of the College’s Hazardous Waste Central Accumulation Facility Emergency Contingency Plan.

+ Supervisors and mentors fire safety and construction safety staff on their duties including coordination of fire and emergency drills.

+ Provides direction to and training of staff on functional specific tasks, applications, concepts, policies and/or procedures.

+ Establishes operational benchmarks, metrics and productivity standards to streamline workflows and and identify improvement opportunities.
Education
+ Bachelor's Degree in related field
Experience
Approximately 5 years of experience in fire safety, emergency operations and/or emergency response
Must obtain FDNY Fire Life Safety .F.89. Certificates of Fitness within one year of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local fire safety regulations and relevant codes and NYC Class B Building fire safety and emergency action plan requirements.

+ Skilled in assessing and implementing fire safety compliance programs and working with a diverse clientele of facility managers and building occupancies.

+ Ability to act decisively when responding to emergency situations.

+ Demonstrated ability to read and interpret instrument readings.

+ Knowledgable in the design and operation of building fire alarm and life safety systems.
Licenses and Certifications
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must be capable of demonstrating WCMC.supplied safety equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and moving 55.gallon drums.
Must be capable of utilizing respiratory protection equipment, including negative.pressure respirators and self.contained breathing apparatus .SCBA..
Must be capable of climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
Must be reachable and accessible for emergencies during off hours.
Exempt employees are expected to work non.standard hours as need to ensure all duties are met.
