Position Summary

The NYC Elder Abuse Center at Weill Cornell Medicine \(NYCEAC\) works with local, statewide and national partners to develop and implement innovative and collaborative approaches to the complex problem of elder mistreatment and to improve the ways professionals, organizations and systems respond to it\.

Professionals working with older adults might detect elder abuse but are often unsure of how to proceed in assessing and assisting the victims and their family members\. NYCEAC has a team of specialists who provide case consultation services and support on a range of elder abuse\-related issues\. Specialists include forensic accountants, geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors\.

The point of intake for this assistance is NYCEAC's Case Consultation Unit\. Clinicians provide the case consultations by talking with professionals calling about elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation cases; offer guidance and referralinformation; link the professionals calling to the specialists; and at times refer the case to NYCEAC's elder abuse enhanced multidisciplinary teamsfor more intensive review and response\. The Clinicians also collaborate with community\-based professionals to ensure efficient, effective service delivery\.

NYCEAC currently has a _Clinician_ position open in the Case Consultation Unit\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Works with clinicians to identify psychiatric, forensic accounting, social service and medical needs of cases presented\.

+ Collaborates with physicians, legal advisors, social service agencies and staff regarding patient situations\. Provides a prognosis based on the treatment progress\.

+ Maintains follow\-up of cases to ensure continuity of care\.

+ Assists with staff in\-services on issues as needed\.

+ Participates, as appropriate, in professional, educational, and supportive seminars, events and community efforts\.

+ Stays up to date with government, professional, and institutional regulations, legislation, policies, and standards of care\.

+ Stays up to date with changes in elder justice practice and related literature\.

+ Represents the program in professional and public venues, including conferences involving travel\.

+ Performs other duties as assigned or required\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


Master's degree preferred

Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred

Current NYS licensure/certification relevant to role is required\.

Knowledge of aging and elder abuse, working with vulnerable populations, particularly knowledge of elder abuse case complexity, NYC service systems and resources for NYCs older victims\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Ability to work with professionals from a broad range of disciplines and experience levels\.

+ Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team as well as independently\.

+ Strong organizational and time management skills\.

+ Excellent communication skills \(both verbal and written\)\.
