Position Summary

Provides strategic and operational leadership for a multi\-institutional collaborative program for small molecule, antibody and biologics drug discovery and development within the Tri\-Institutional Therapeutics Discovery Institute \(Tri\-I TDI\)\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Oversees and manages day\-to\-day operations, including advising the Board of Directors on setting strategic direction, hiring and supervising professional, technical and administrative support staff and preparing/managing an annual budget\.

+ Provides technical guidance and assistance to faculty\. Oversees developing and in\-sourcing assays to labs within the academic institutions, or out\-sourcing assays when appropriate\.

+ Manages the Scientific Advisory Committee, both in terms of membership and output\. Recruits, selects and guides projects\. Recommends adoption or termination of projects\.

+ Educates tri\-institutional faculty and trainees about the process of drug discovery and development via multiple modalities including organizing courses, workshops, seminars\. Supervises a postdoctoral fellows program and provides one\-on\-one mentoring\.

+ Apprises the tri\-institutional Boards of TDI activities and assists in philanthropic fund raising\. Provides advice on strategies for licensing TDI projects\. Provides oversight of TDI tech transfer operations\.

+ Works closely with and supervises industry partners' seconded chemists on\-site or at other sites\. Liaises with off\-site industry partners' personnel as needed\.

+ Develops and enhances external networks with service providers, local and state governments, other collaborating institutions, the press, philanthropy and other commercial and academic interested parties that benefit TDI programs\.


+ PhD

+ Medical Degree \(MD\)


Approximately 10\+ years of drug discovery experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry and within academia, with demonstrated experience in managing a drug discovery organization\.

MD and/or PhD degree with a demonstrable record of success in therapeutic discovery, ideally in multi\-therapeutic domains\.

Track record of assisting in identifying and, ideally, developing top\-tier talent in an

academic, corporate or related setting\.

Extensive knowledge of the in vitro and in vivo pharmacology models coupled with an

appreciation for the critical issues ever\-present in drug discovery and development\.

Familiarity with antibody discovery, engineering and development\.

Background in translating basic or applied research into clinical trials and/or development of successful diagnostic, therapeutic or other relevant technology is ideal\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Exceptional leadership skills\.

+ Awareness of the financial and business aspects of therapeutic discovery\.

+ A sense of urgency and ability to deliver results\.

+ Excellent communication skills to be highly adept at working with varied stakeholders, both academic and commercial, as well as accountable to a Board of Directors\.

+ Ability to independently solve problems related to CRO monitoring and management\.

+ Ability to charismatically command the respect of the academic community and inspire its participation in the TDI\.

+ Ability to play an active role in identifying and nurturing opportunities, ultimately promoting TDIs agenda to its partners\.
