Description **Position Summary**

Under general supervision and according to established department protocol, performs non-invasive fetal and gynecologic sonography, and participates in invasive fetal and gynecologic sonography. Records findings in patient record in a thorough and timely fashion.

**Position Activities**

Performs non-invasive fetal sonographic procedures. Obtains and records accurate patient history prior to procedure; discusses process with patients before, during and after procedure.

Interprets sonograms and prepares data for preliminary diagnosis; completes patient information cards; prepares reports.

Assists in training sonography students. Assists in providing instruction in the use of equipment and protocol for working up a case.

Keeps up-to-date with developments and new techniques in the field. Attends conferences, reviews current literature, and observes techniques at other institutions.

Maintains laboratory/procedure room. Maintains inventory and requests supplies; ensures equipment is in working order; immediately informs supervisor when service repair is needed or necessary.

Participates in divisional meeting with medical staff to review cases and literature regarding patient care and research protocols. Assists with collecting data for publications.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Minimum Requirements**

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification

Completion of a course of study in ultrasound sonography at an accredited school

**Highly Desired Requirements**

Bachelor's degree

Five years' experience working in High-Risk Fetal Sonography

**Skill and Abilities**

Good oral communication skills

Ability to explain procedures to high risk OB patients.
