DEAN OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) seeks to fill the Dean of Technical Education located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This position is a full-time 12-month position and is open until filled.


REPORTS TO: Reports to the Vice Chancellor for Workforce Development and also to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs for accreditation and institutional effectiveness purposes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution with a concentration in a field of technical education. Five years of professional experience teaching in a community college in a technical education field. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, which support effective interactions with faculty; ability to develop curriculum and market programs; excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain positive working relationships with various College constituencies; and understanding of community college philosophy and mission.

GENERAL FUNCTION: This position is responsible for the general administration of the operations, procedures and plans governing technical programs. This position provides the general management of programs, including course scheduling, advising, supervision of faculty, and assuring compliance making recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs relative to policies, plans and objectives for the Division of Technical Education.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities
Serve as the chief administrative, educational and budget officer within the division
Promote an atmosphere of collegiality within the division
Conduct regularly scheduled division meetings
Collaborate in the development and coordination of new programs
Build partnerships and collaborations with other agencies
Maintain functioning advisory committees for the division programs
Select and recommend candidates who meet appropriate credentialing standards for full-time and adjunct faculty positions
Mentor faculty, department chairs and program managers
Supervise and facilitate the needs of faculty, department chairs, program managers and support staff in accordance with institutional policies, regulations, and procedures
Review and recommend changes to educational/academic policies

Curriculum Development and Learning
Initiate curriculum transfer and articulation between high school, non-credit courses/programs as well as regional colleges/universities
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry regarding the development, evaluation and updating of program curriculum and courses for currency and relevance
Conduct appropriate market analyses in development of new programs, program modification or recommendations for program elimination
Assist faculty in the development of innovative instructional methodology

Evaluation
Make recommendations for retention, promotion, and termination of faculty and staff
Conduct annual evaluation of faculty, department chairs, program managers and staff in accordance with college policies and procedures
Provide final conflict resolution for appropriate personnel within the division
Oversee the evaluation and effectiveness of division programs and course offerings including program review
Planning and Budgeting
Work with faculty, department chairs, program managers, and staff to establish needs and priorities for division expenditures and growth
Develop the division budget, approve expenditures, and monitor spending within the parameters of approved budget practices
