Job Summary
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Counselor/Instructor Disabled Student Programs and Services for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

This position reports directly to the Division Dean.

Representative Duties
1. Provide disability-specific counseling in areas related to academic, personal and career goals and disability management.
2. Evaluate documentation verifying a disability, identify disability-related functional limitations and determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations which address those limitations.
3. Serve as an advocate for disabled students, working with instructors, counselors and all Las Positas personnel in ensuring equal access to the colleges programs and services.
4. Evaluate student progress through the development and review of a student Academic Accommodation Plan, Short-term and Comprehensive Education Plans.
5. Facilitate student completion of Student Success and Support components.
6. Facilitate the provision of accommodations such as note-taking, assistive technology, test-taking and any other strategies arrived at as part of an interactive process.
7. Maintain confidential records including required Title 5 elements.
8. Participate in the formulation and assessment of DSPS Student Learning Outcomes.
9. Participate in professional development activities, college governance and community/high school outreach activities.
10. Participate in the orientation and transition process for students matriculating from high school.
11. Provide support and training to faculty and staff regarding disability-related issues.
12. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

Minimum Education and Experience
Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling


Masters degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelors degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either 15 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:

(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or

(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience providing academic, career, personal and disability management counseling to adult students with any of a variety of disabilities or multiple disabilities in an institution of higher education.
2. Experience working in a multicultural environment with adults from diverse backgrounds.
3. Knowledge of assistive aids, adaptive equipment/technologies or other methods of providing reasonable accommodations.
4. Training or experience in the implementation of ADA, ADAA, Section 504 requirements.
5. Completion of the California Community College Chancellors Office LDESM Training.
6. Formal training and practical experience in the administration, scoring and interpretation of cognitive (WAIS-IV and WJ-III) and achievement (WJ-III and WIAT-III) assessment instruments.
7. Possession of a doctorate in a related field or a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification.
8. Significant experience working with people with severe, persistent psychological disabilities.

Job Work Schedule
This position is full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall 2018. Employment will begin on or about August 16, 2018.
