     Harford Community College has served as an anchor institution in Harford County since its inception in 1957. We are a mid-sized, comprehensive college committed to serving our community through high caliber educational offerings and cultural events.

Our beautiful, 352-acre campus is conveniently located near Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; and Wilmington, DE. We offer more than 70 affordable degree and certificate programs to nearly 2,000 full-time and 7,500 part-time students, as well as a wide variety of noncredit continuing education courses to nearly 11,000 students per year. 

The Coordinator for Disability Support Services provides disability support services; academic, career and transfer advising; and intervention services to students; coordinates note-taking, scribe and reading services, including the hiring, training, and supervising of staff who provide the services; and provides education to faculty and staff on disability- and intervention-related issues.

Duties include, but are not limited to, supervising a staff of approximately 15-20 part-time note-takers; serving as an advocate for issues regarding students with disabilities to ensure equal access; providing services that promote access to the campus community; providing consultation and disability awareness to the campus community regarding academic accommodations, compliance with legal responsibilities, as well as instructional, programmatic, physical, and curriculum modifications; working directly with a cohort of students to develop a plan for the provision of approved academic accommodations and academic success; using a service delivery model that encourages students with disabilities to develop independence; serving as a member of our Student Intervention and Prevention team to present students exhibiting concerning behavior with appropriate resources and referrals; and assisting with program evaluation and the assessment of student learning outcomes. 

This is an exempt, professional staff position reporting to the Director for Disability and Student Intervention Services and is part of the Student Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness division of the College.  


     A master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education or related field, and over three years up to and including five years of related experience including:

  • experience working in disability services evaluating documentation, determining accommodations, and promoting universal design and/or accessible technologies

  • experience coordinating note-taker/scribe/reader auxiliary aides

  • supervisory experience inclusive of recruiting, hiring, training, assigning work, monitoring and evaluating employee performance

  • experience working in higher education providing academic, career, and transfer advising

  • working knowledge of relevant disability, accessibility, privacy laws and promising practices

  • excellent computer skills and proficiency with student information management systems, preferably Banner 9, Degree Works, Blackboard and Accommodate by Symplicity

  • experience conducting assessments of student learning outcomes, including data collection, interpretation/analysis and data visualization

  • demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse cultural, disability, ethnic and/or underrepresented college student populations

  • demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely; bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

  • extensive experience and demonstrated success related to disability services in higher education, including an understanding of disability and disability-related laws that are essential for fostering a positive campus perspective for access and accessibility

  • a clear understanding that that the goal of all accommodations is to create equitable opportunities for full participation resulting from either an environment that is designed (proactively) to work for a majority of people; or effective, reasonable modifications to policies, practices, procedures and other environmental barriers (reactive) that result in access

The position requires professional judgment and the ability to listen, question, reflect, and analyze.  The candidate will often need to facilitate creative solutions to the barriers that exist by learning about and analyzing environmental variables and working proactively to reframe notions of access for faculty and other campus personnel.   

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
