Position Summary

Under general guidance, supervises, monitors, and trains physician assistant staff\. This role also performs clinical responsibilities as outlined by the assigned clinical department and supervising physician, in accordance with established procedures\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Ensures Physician Assistants have or develop proper credentials to carry out bedside procedures, and maintains appropriate records of these credentials\.

+ May serve in the role of a Physician Assistant on assigned service when coverage is needed\.

+ May develop, maintain and/or disseminate departmental or functional specific policies and procedures\. May also be responsible for maintaining a departmental standard operating procedures \(SOP\) manual if available\.

+ Generates reports for analysis\.

+ Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents\. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately\. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery\. May assist with cost control\.

+ Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field\. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate\.

+ Responsible for optimal staffing of staff\. Assigns staff to different sites as needed to maximize utilization of equipment and ensure adequate staffing to handle patient through\-put of scheduled patients and same\-day or emergent additions\.

+ Maintains current knowledge of various data acquisition protocols\. Responsible for developing and providing in\-service training to staff for new techniques, protocols, procedures or equipment\.

+ Triages emergency calls from patients and physicians\. Escalates as needed\.

+ Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times\.

+ Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment\. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed\.


+ Bachelor's Degree


Graduate of an accredited Physicians Assistant program from recognized college or university\.

Approximately 3 years of experience as a Physician Assistant

Previous experience in a lead role or as a supervisor is preferred\.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

+ Demonstrated experience in communicating, and developing relationships, with clinical staff and ancillary services\.

+ Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, and will posses basic leadership skills\.

Licenses and Certifications

+ Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration

+ Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This position requires the occasional lifting of equipment and patients\.

This positon might result in exposure to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards\.

May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials\.
