Position Summary







Under general guidance, supervises, monitors, and trains diagnostic MRI technologist staff\. This role also operates MRI equipment to assist in the safe and efficient diagnosis and assessment of patient conditions, in accordance with established procedures and manages data collection and organization of the MRI rooms\.







Job Responsibilities







+ May develop, maintain and/or disseminate departmental or functional specific policies and procedures\. May also be responsible for maintaining a departmental standard operating procedures \(SOP\) manual if available\.



+ Generates reports for analysis\.



+ Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents\. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately\. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery\. May assist with cost control\.



+ Attends workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field\. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate\.



+ Assists current and new employees in the use of systems/equipment and departmental policies and procedures\.



+ Responsible for optimal staffing of staff\. Assigns staff to different sites as needed to maximize utilization of equipment and ensure adequate staffing to handle patient through\-put of scheduled patients and same\-day or emergent additions\.



+ Maintains current knowledge of various data acquisition protocols\. Responsible for developing and providing in\-service training to staff for new techniques, protocols, procedures or equipment\.



+ Performs quality control testing and machine calibrations in accordance with IAC or American College of Radiology \(ACR\) standards\. Documents such testing & calibration in organized retrievable manner for inspection by ACR, IAC or other accrediting bodies\.



+ Recognizes problems/malfunctions of equipment and may assist in making minor adjustments\. Monitors appropriate service action by outside contractors\. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment in accordance with established procedures\.



+ Triages emergency calls from patients and physicians\. Escalates as needed\.



+ Maintains digital archive media, ensuring consistent, accurate and accessible archive records\.



+ Monitors image quality during patient scans and adjusts scanning protocols as needed\. Collates and inspects ultrasound images for quality control purposes\. Utilizes pre\-set protocols and creates new protocols as needed\.



+ Greets registered patients at time of visit and triages patients through the patient flow process\. Checks schedules and accompanies patients to exam/procedure room\. Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing and preparing for exam\.



+ Reviews and verifies patient identity, history and requisition for exam to be performed\.



+ Takes appropriate scans to determine areas of possible pathology\. Modifies testing parameters, under direction, to ensure accurate imaging\.



+ Processes and archives images in accordance with established procedures\.



+ Inputs patient history information at time of exam/test into the practice management system\. Scans relevant medical documentation related to patient's case\.



+ Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times\.



+ Responsible for maintaining a sterile environment\. Ensures standard infection control precautions are observed\.



+ Assists with the review of cases and literature regarding patient care and research protocols, as well as the collection of data for publications\.



+ Categorizes data for lectures, courses, and research protocols\.



+ Implements technical data, organizes record keeping and data collection\.



+ Sets up physiological monitoring and stimulus delivery equipment \(if applicable\)\.



+ Performs MRI diagnostic scans of patient as requested by clinical requisition\. Explains procedure to be performed to patient prior to scan and answers any questions throughout scan\.



+ Provides assistance to reception staff in patient scheduling as necessary to accommodate patient and referring physician requests\.







Education







+ Bachelor's Degree in related field







Experience







Approximately 5 years of experience as clinical MRI technologist on GE equipment required, with experience on Siemens equipment preferred\.







Approximately 2 years of experience as supervisor\.







Knowledge, Skills and Abilities







+ Demonstrated experience with MRI sequences and cross\-sectional anatomy\.



+ Graduate of approved school of radiography\.







Licenses and Certifications







+ Current, active and unrestricted New York State License in Radiographic Technology \(RT\)



+ ARRT Certification



+ BLS Certification \(issued by the American Heart Association\)
