Position Summary

Leads Power BI initiatives, sets up Power BI Landscape and Architecture including Power BI Gateway and Azure, uses varied data connectors to on premise or cloud data stores with ability to quickly stage & shape data from data sources into reporting and analytics solutions\. Engages with business analysts and subject matter experts to gather and document requirements, with minimum supervision\. Converts requirements into professional reporting solutions\. Ensures the quality of junior developer work products, with the ability to propose and develop innovative solutions to complex problems/user requirements by providing technical support and guidance to junior developers\. Demonstrates proficiency in back\-end and/or front\-end development objects\.

Job Responsibilities

+ Leads Power BI implementation, including setup of Power BI Landscape and Architecture\.

+ Transforms structured and unstructured data from SAP HANA, SAP BW, Success Factors, ServiceNow, MS SQL Server and OData based applications\.

+ Builds and deploys SSIS packages for ETL processes\.

+ Transforms, models, develops visualizations both standard and custom with complex DAX \(Data Analysis expressions\) and reporting\.

+ Uses Power BI Gateway for automating the data refresh procedures in Power BI\. Writes stored procedures using SQL, schedules jobs, migrates reports from other platforms to Power BI\.

+ Creates data lakes/data layers, Hana modelling using attribute view, analytical view, calculation view and decision tables\.

+ Creates a variety of backend objects\. Develops complete ETL data flow models, from source system extraction to transformations, loading and report creation\. Documents solution directions, data flows, design and technical specifications\.

+ Creates reporting backend infrastructure, reports and dashboards\. Creates complex reports and develops reporting solutions that enhance the end user experience and meets business requirements\.

+ Develops business intelligence reports in support of the colleges mission\. Engages users to understand needs, gathers and documents requirements\. Follows functional specification documents to ensure report work products meet the needs of the requester\.

+ Analyzes complex problems\. Recommends and implements innovative solutions\. Communicates requirements and partners with other developers to analyze complex data and process issues\.

+ Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues, debugs, tunes and optimizes data load and report performance\. Works closely with Basis and Portal teams to optimize system performance and monitor usage\.

+ Creates and executes test scripts to ensure that reports/dashboard provide accurate results and meet the requirements of the customer\.

+ Collaborates and coordinates with developers and Business Analysts to analyze complex problems and recommend innovative solutions\.

+ Provides end user and support desk support and provides resolutions\. Assists users with reporting navigation or data questions\.


+ Bachelor's Degree in related field


Minimum of 4 years hands on experience with the development of Power BI and a minimum of 2 full lifecycle Power BI implementation\.

Hands on experience in DAX\(Data Analysis expressions\) language to create DAX columns and measures over data models for the purpose of enhancing Power BI visuals\.

Strong experience in creating data lakes/data layers, Hana modelling using attribute view, analytical view, calculation view and decision tables\.

Expertise with writing scripts in R and Python\.

Understanding of Database Management, Sequences and programming including SQL, SQL Script & stored procedures\.

Experience with SAP BI models \(SAP BW and SAP BODS\)\.

Experience in creating reports using BEx Query Designer, Web Intelligence, Analysis for Excel\.

Experience publishing and distributing Business Objects reports via the BEx Broadcaster, BI Launch Pad \(InfoView\), BI Workspaces, folder structures, Life Cycle Manager, and authorizations\.

+ Solid analytical and problem solving ability\.

+ Desire to assume increasing levels of responsibility and to learn new skills\.

+ Experience with SAP Finance \(Grants, Funds, General Ledger\) or Human Capital Management \(HCM Payroll, Benefits, SuccessFactors\) modules\.

+ Experience with reporting from Research Administrative Systems like InfoEd, and understanding of research attributes, workflows and processes\.
