Job Summary:
The Associate Dean reports to the Academic Dean and has direct supervision of designated disciplines. Responsibilities include class scheduling, classroom evaluation, and respond to student academic concerns. Coordinates activities consistent with the campus’ and college’s mission, strategic goals and objectives. Promotes and fosters an innovative teaching and learning environment conducive to academic excellence. Supports and encourages the infusion of academic initiatives, including instructional technology, into the teaching and learning process. Manages budget and collaborates and supervises faculty and staff.

This position will oversee the following disciplines:

• Accounting, Business, Computer Science
• Paralegal Studies
• Prep-Language, Strategies and Education
• Ophthalmic Medical Technology
• Radiography
• Respiratory
• Sonography
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop policy recommendations for consideration and adoption.
  • Develop and maintain manuals regarding policies.
  • Develop, maintain, interpret, and execute administrative procedures and practices. This activity includes developing and maintaining manuals regarding policies, procedures, rules, and standards for the College.
  • Communicate to college personnel and others through written and online methods administrative and informational matter, as necessary.
  • Participate in various meetings and committees.
  • Analyze class and program needs of the College. Determine and/or recommend the retention/deletion of courses.
  • Develop and coordinate program and course schedules, faculty assignments, and test dates. Maintain calendar as necessary to track these schedules. Make adjustments, as required.
  • Assist faculty in the development of course and program curriculum, program and course reviews and articulation activities.
  • Guide, lead, review, verify, observe, and manage the work of people reporting directly to you.
  • Plan, direct, and control the work of people who do not report directly to you, but who provide support to the goals and objectives of your organization.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of your employees.
  • Develop and train staff. Perform needs analysis, arrange, coordinate, deliver, evaluate, and/or monitor staff development.
  • Coordinate the activities of one or more staff. Assist in scheduling and administrative requirements. This may include student workers, part-time, full-time, temporary, and/or volunteers.
  • Develop long-range goals, objectives, priorities, and recommendations.
  • Develop short-term goals. Includes goals, objectives, priorities and/or recommendations.
  • Liaison among departments, functions or groups, within the College. Communicate information to appropriate personnel.
  • Act as a College liaison for programs and/or services with outside agencies or community leaders. Communicate program information internally.
  • Chairs college-wide committee and coordinates committee events.
  • Must be able to act as liaison to a wide variety of College personnel and act as a facilitator of project(s) requiring people who do not directly report to you but who provide support to the goals and objectives of your organization.
  • Assist in the evaluation of the unit relative to its mission and suggest ways services may be refined.
  • Acknowledge, research, and respond to complaints received regarding College programs, and College employees. May include liaison and mediation activities among complainant, the College faculty and staff.
  • Attend community meetings of, present to, and/or assist professional associations, business groups, and civic clubs. May promote College programs.
  • Provide direction in the design, development and administration of campus programs and operations to achieve established campus and College mission, goals and objectives.
  • Conduct all tasks related to the preparation of the annual and other periodic budgets for a department, campus, or college.
  • Review and analyze budget requests from departments. Make recommendations on funding and staffing levels. Prepare analytical reports on budget requests.
  • Review payrolls submitted by departments for accuracy and completeness. Answer questions of payroll preparers.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in one of the designated disciplines.

 

Minimum of four years related experience, and supervising faculty experience, and teaching experience, curriculum development experience, including two years department chair or similar experience.


Preferred:

Doctorate’s degree.

Secondary or postsecondary work experience.
